Potty training for the submissive dog
Wow what a title, but it caught your attention didn’t it?
So Maggie, our not quite year old Cock-a-Poo (we bought her in December ‘07) is back at it. What you might ask? Well, lets just say that she likes to pee when I (John) look at her, pick her up, speak to her, or as was the case yesterday - if I’m just minding my own business watching TV and she decides to jump up on me. How frustrating is this? Shelby never had this problem - he was just plain dumb and didn’t get the clue that outside=ok to pee and inside=very bad to pee.
So I did a little searching and found this document: Submissive Urination. Wow that describes her to a “T”. So it would seem that poor self confidence is not limited to human teenagers. My question is, what causes this to develop in the first place? She didn’t start doing this until at least May, but not it’s horrible. Yelling at her only makes it worse, and it’s as if she’s suddenly petrified of everyone. Oh well. Maybe it’ll get better. We’re trying to follow the tact now of keeping our voices low when we go to pick her up and getting on our knees in front of her instead of leaning down. So far, well, yeah nothing. Keep your fingers crossed.
